Kids Spaces

This week is dedicated to the kids! The space between a nursery and a grown-up room can feel a little awkward for many parents to put together, so we’re sharing five spaces with ideas on how to create a room for kids that is age appropriate but flexible enough to grow with the child and be enjoyed by everyone.

Shared Room

This first room was designed for sharing! Bunkbeds aren’t the only option when designing a room for two, especially with younger kids. Here, each boy has his own sleep space and we put together shared activity and play areas utilizing every corner of the room.

A Room for Friends

This room was designed for a sweet girl who loves sleepovers! We included a custom bunk loft with a built in staircase so her friends would have a cozy place to stay over. The walls were custom painted by Erika Lenaye and we incorporated a swing and reading nook for play time and quiet time. We love that this space can also welcome her little sister when she’s old enough to stay in big sis’s room too.

A Room for One

This boy’s room incorporates some of his favorite things while steering clear of themes. We used shades of greens, beige and ivory along with outdoor inspired art and accessories to keep it feeling playful without being too youthful.

A Montessori Lounge

Not all kid spaces are designed as bedrooms, some are just for learning and play. This playroom was designed to promote experiential and exploratory learning and play. As this little one gets bigger, more activities can be added that are age and ability appropraite in this kids lounge area.

A Multi-Media Playroom

This playroom creates a shared living space between two sisters’ rooms, and a learning and play environment appropriate for various age groups. We designed this room with lots of soft floor play options, easy to access storage and easy clean up bags and baskets. We used an Ikea Besta media unit with Semihandmade beaded fronts in Desert Grey for hidden storage and canvas bags and shelves for more readily available toys and games. The wallpaper, Raja Grey, comes from our friends at CC Textiles.

An Imaginative Child’s Room

Our final kid’s space to share is a “big boy” room for a little one transitioning out of toddler-hood. We chose a bed that encourages imaginative play and we always like to inculde a play and reading nook. We also added a couple nods to this boy’s favorite characters, Woody and Iron Man.
