6 Ways to Elevate Your Work From Home Space

As we all settle into our new, unexpected way of life during this pandemic, it can be difficult to stay motivated while working from home. It’s so much easier to “take a 5-minute break” that turns into an hour and the distractions can be endless with stir-crazy kids and a refrigerator that’s just a few steps away.

Here are some way’s our team has made working from home a bit more productive and enjoyable!

Designate an “office” space if you don’t already have one. It’s okay if you don’t have an entire room that you can declare as your home office. Assigning any space in your home as your work area will help lead to productivity because it will help associate that area with work only. Make sure the area is clear from any distractions, however. Working in a cluttered room, you’ll find yourself resisting the urge to reorganize all day, so make sure your space is clean and tidy!

Invest in comfortable furniture. Office furniture can be both functional and stylish at the same time. Don’t sacrifice your physical well being by sitting in an uncomfortable chair for 8 hours a day just because you like the way it looks. If you can, invest in a sit/stand desk! They have many benefits and can relieve back pain that can occur from sitting for extended periods of time. Some companies even offer reimbursement plans for office furniture, you might want to see if that option is available for you.

Take Breaks! Go for a walk, make a personal call, STRETCH! Tthe hours can fly by staring at a screen all day!

Add plants to liven up your workspace. Aside from their air-purifying capabilities, plants in the workspace have been proven to increase productivity by up to 15%. Find a plant that works best for your space, dependent on how much light the space receives. And if you have a black thumb, don’t worry! There are tons of low maintenance plants to choose from that are almost impossible to kill but offer all of the same benefits.

Choose decor that will encourage productivity and creativity. This is your space so you have the freedom to decorate any way you want! Make sure that the decor you choose is not too distracting, however. You want your focus to be on your work while the area around you encourages you to be productive and inspires you throughout the day.

Start your day gathering the essentials that make you successful. Before you sit down, spend time ensuring that you have all the supplies you will need to avoid any interruptions. For example, keep your calendar nearby in case you need to reference a date; fill a large glass of water so you don’t need to consistently refill; and your basic supplies like pens, sticky notes, pad of paper are all things you may need to reach for throughout the work day!

Are you still working from home? How have you made your workspace enlightening, comfortable and functional?
