8 Spring Design Trends for 2020

It’s officially spring time, which means flowers are in bloom, the sun is out and in Arizona, the weather is PERFECT. Unfortunately, we can only enjoy these things in the vicinity of our homes, however, it couldn’t be more perfect that so many of these design trends for spring this year are bringing the outside in. We could all use the soothing vibes from earth tones in a master bedroom or the liveliness that a real olive tree brings to a living room. These 8 design trends are also easy to turn into home projects while if you have some extra time on your hands!

Real plants over faux

When you can! We understand it’s hard to always keep them alive and thriving in our busy schedules. However, the life they quite literally bring to a room is undeniable. Plants purify the air and people are anxious to be healthy right now. Great for your mental health and for the overall ecosystem. Plus, they sure know how to tie a space together!

If you’re local to Arizona, we recommend Whitfill Nursery and The Plant Stand to find some new plant friends for your home!

Earth tones

We’re seeing a trend here with bringing natural elements into our homes.  Earthy tones are complimenting cool tones and we are here for it! Think olive green, chestnut and even deeper tones like a chocolatey brown as warm addition to pretty white walls.

Open shelving

Open shelves were a big trend last year and they are here to stay! However, let’s make the shelf styling practical. Try these quick and easy tips:

  • Store/display your wooden cutting boards on the counter

  • Instead of having coffee pods, sugar, tea stored in their boxes, put them in solid-lidded jars.

  • Keep matching dinner plates, bowls, salad plates and mixing bowls that you use every day on open shelves and save the closed cabinets for cups, kids’ dishes, serving platters, glassware, etc.

Not JUST bright white

While white is always a great choice for paint, it isn’t the only neutral out there. Cream and taupe tones can also feel light, bright and airy while adding a little bit of warmth. Remember those earth tones we mentioned? Here are our favorites:

Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter

Magnolia Southern Grown

Sherwin Williams Repose Gray

Painted doors and trim

While white on white is great, painting doors and trim a few neutral shades darker than the wall color is a great way to show off the millwork. Or for a complete contrast go dark, our favorite black paints are Benjamin Moore Cheating Heart and Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black.

Clustered pendant lights

We are loving pendant light groupings lately. So much so that we’ve actually have a few designs of clustered pendant lights out to clients right now! We especially love pendants with a woven texture for this look.

Functional kitchen centerpieces

We always say yes to function married with beauty. We love these ideas:

  • Stack some of your favorite cookbooks next to a candle.

  • Place a dough bowl in the middle of your kitchen island with fresh greens.

  • A bowl or jar full of lemons.

  • Stack cutting boards against your backsplash.

  • A holder of wooden cooking utensils.

Wall baskets!

Wall baskets are kind of our thing! So they’re always on trend for us.

We hope you’ve found some fun projects to incorporate into your home for this spring! Check back on our blog weekly for more design tips, trends and projects we’re working on.
