Lundberg Family Road Trip: RV Essentials & Itinerary

Thank you so much for coming back to the LGD blog! Lexi here, and I am so excited to share this post with you all today!

It’s the annual Lundberg Road Trip time and we are grateful now more than ever to be able to escape the Arizona heat and the confines of our home to get out into nature and explore! This year, I will be sharing more with you all more than I ever have before including multiple blog posts, images on my Instagram and product links for all of our road trip essentials.

In this post you can expect to find information on the RV itself, steps I took to prep and pack the RV and product links to shop!

The RV

First things first. The RV! This was a huge jump for our family, as we have spent the last seven summers road tripping in our SUV, staying at hotels, with family and in airbnbs. We plan to be gone 42 days this trip and wanted a comfortable home base. So, purchasing our own RV is super exciting and we can’t wait for the memories it will bring! The kids have named it “Wilson the Winnebago” (after our favorite Seahawk’s QB Russell Wilson) and he even has his own Instagram. He needs some love!

We purchased Wilson from a local RV dealer in the greater Phoenix area. Here are some stats on Wilson:

  • Winnebago Navion Floor Plan 24d

  • 25ft long with one side slide out.

  • Sleeps all 5 of us. Two kids above the cab, one at the banquette that turns into a bed (but could definitely put two there), and Chris and I on the queen sized Murphy bed.

  • We are still figuring out all the fun features but we are most thankful that it seems to be set up so that we don’t fail it! Auto-leveling, diesel engine with power, captains chairs that turn all the way around, a good size fridge and freezer, pull out pantry drawers, and an extra long countertop are some of my favorite features so far!

Prep and Packing

There was SO MUCH to prep before we hit the road and while it was a huge undertaking (and I forgot a few things for sure), it was so much fun to pack up the RV and try to make it feel like home. Here are a few of the steps I took to ensure we had everything we needed.

  • First - I looked for inspo and ideas from some amazing RV traveling families and bloggers via Instagram and Pinterest. Pinterest had a ton of great pins for packing hacks and lists that were so helpful. My favorite RV family to follow is @themomtrotter on IG. She shares so much of her life as a full time RV family, tips, inspiration, and her heart as a mom and wife.

  • Made a shopping list sorted by:

    • Meals

    • Snacks

    • Kitchenware

    • Sleep

    • Clothing

    • Toiletries

    • On the road activities and entertainment

    • Outdoor fun and recreation

    • RV Accessories

Our Itinerary

To map out our trip, I used the following apps- Roadtrippers, FreeRoam, and Harvesthosts. Using these apps we were able to plug in the places we wanted to visit and see the best route along with unique places to stay. These apps were easy to use and we are still using them while on the road! Here is our VERY ROUGH itinerary (we’re taking it day by day and trying be spontaneous and also being super mindful of COVID precautions!):
